IRA Gifts
Gifts using the proceeds of an IRA account make for an innovative and easy way to make a direct gift to the HRDC. For the fortunate few who are in the position of having an IRA in place and NOT needing the income from their IRA in a given year, the IRA charitable roller provision allows tax-free distributions of up to $100,000 per taxpayer, per taxable year, to an eligible charitable organization. Donors must be 70 ½ or older to make a tax roll over from their IRA. One of the nicest things about these gifts is that they are so easy to make. The donor simply has to notify the holder of the IRA account and they make the distribution directly to the charity. Because the distribution goes directly to a qualified charity, the amount is not counted as income for the donor and not subject to income tax.

Corporate Support Nominations
Local nurse and good friend of HRDC, Pat O’Brien, nominated HRDC to receive a gift from a corporation she did business with in southern California.  The company (Calmoseptine, Inc., maker of a very popular burn/bite ointment), forwarded $1,500 in two checks  – one paid one and a half months of the energy bill for our Warming Center and the other paid two months of the energy bill for Amos House.  Nominations for corporate support makes a great difference.
