Casey’s Story

Over six years, Casey lived in five different places. Then, when his rental was sold, he was given just a week and a half to figure out where he would go next.

So, for a while, he lived in his van in a friend’s driveway.

Casey had resources. He knew how to navigate the system. And after nearly two years working at HRDC as a housing case manager, he knew firsthand just how difficult it can be to find an affordable place to live in Bozeman.

But knowing how to navigate the system doesn’t make housing any easier to find. Suddenly, Casey was experiencing a small piece of the uncertainty he had spent his career helping others navigate.

“Housing was just kind of not available..even to people that are working full time. It made me realize it can happen to anybody.”

Then Casey found an opportunity through our Community Housing Trust.

Our Community Housing Trust creates permanently affordable homeownership opportunities by helping local residents purchase homes at prices aligned with local wages. By keeping homes in the trust, we can help make sure those homes remain affordable for future homeowners, too.

For Casey, that opportunity meant more than buying a home. It meant being able to stay in the community he calls home, put down roots in Bozeman, and have a stable place for himself and his dog, Regina George.

Today, Casey has the stability and security of a place he can truly call home.
